Questions about university auditions for music major?

It really depends on the school. At McGill, you must be at a Grade 10 minimum with strong technique to even be considered. At a community college or a music school with perhaps less so called "prestige", my guess is they are looking for some decent chops, but also some talent. Technique can always be learned, but talent... that's another thing. My guess is no professor is going to want to let in someone they don't think has any chance of surviving as a musician or a music teacher. Just keep practicing,(1-2 hours/day) make sure you know your scales, and technique and play your songs really well, when you audition focus only on being musical.
