How do I make sure my book isn't like the Jacqueline Wilson books?

I'm writing a teenage girls diary like the Jacqueline Wilson or Hilary Mckay books but I want to make sure it's more light hearted and doesn't turn into a soap like Jacqueline Wilson's books do. It's about a girl who's parent's divorce and she gets a new family in a nutshell, there are other things that happen too, like her step-brother being bullied and not getting on with her new step-sister.
