Can you succeed in life alone?

I come from a very messed up family. Father was a child molester and mother has a narcissistic personality disorder. Recently my mother's crazy behavior pushed me to the brink of suicide and I decided to cut her out of my life except for a short visit every 2 months. I have no partner, no real friends and have depended on my crazy mother for emotional support, which she gave a ton of in order to control me and prevent me from depending on other people. I was wondering if anyone here has been able to achieve success in their career with no one else to support them (except maybe a therapist)?
