Americans: What say you of Northern Ireland becoming the 51st State?

Don't believe everything you read on a blog. You have to remember America was one of the poorest nations at the time so I'm not sure where Benjamin Franklin could have made that comparison. Americans tend to rewrite history to suit their current situation. In their heads they have always been a powerful country and always will be, of course both statements are false.
